For any area in which concentrations of flammable gases, vapours, or dusts are likely to occur, any electrical equipment installed has to be specifically designed and tested to ensure that it does not trigger an explosion as a result of arcing contacts or the high surface temperature of the equipment.   In an ordinary atmosphere, a small harmless visible spark created when switching on a light is of no concern.
