Hazardous Area Lighting for Industrial Applications
For any area in which concentrations of flammable gases, vapours, or dusts are likely
to occur, any electrical equipment installed has to be specifically designed and tested
to ensure that it does not trigger an explosion as a result of arcing contacts or the
high surface temperature of the equipment.
In an ordinary atmosphere, a small harmless visible spark created when switching on a
light is of no concern. If, however, flammable vapour is present, that tiny spark could
ignite the vapour and cause an explosion.
In any industrial area, particularly in chemical and petrochemical applications, the
consequences of a explosion occurring is, of course, potentially life-threatening and
catastrophic and therefore any electrical equipment has to be designed to either contain
any explosion within the device itself or designed not to produce sparks with sufficient
energy to trigger an explosion.
McGeoch's traditional and wide experience in the design and manufacture of
ruggedised and hazardous area lighting and switchgear for marine and submarine
applications has now been broadened to include chemical and petrochemical
applications and our new range of lighting and complementary electrical fittings
provides the ideal solution, all backed by the legacy of McGeoch and our reputation for
quality, reliability and value-for-money total service.
Our new range of hazardous area lighting and complementary electrical fittings for industrial applications now includes the
Endurance Zone 1 & 21 LED Luminaire, the LED Automatic Emergency Light, the Astute Type N Luminaire and our extensive
range of LCS Junction Boxes, all fully tested and certified by the relevant authorities including SIRA, conforming to all
international standards for ATEX Zone 2 (Endurance conforms to ATEX Zones 1 & 2) and therefore ideal for potentially
explosive and other harsh, hostile and hazardous environments.
